We were lucky enough to spend an afternoon of kitties & flowers with our friend Hannah Gluckstern, one half of the amazing duo running one of our favorite Brooklyn boutiques, Concrete & Water.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do
Hello Hi! My name is Hannah and I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn with my husband, JD and our dog, Henry. JD and I own Concrete + Water, a lifestyle boutique in Williamsburg. I have lived in the neighborhood for almost 10 years and even though it’s changed a lot I still love the vibe here... Being able to go out to so many amazing restaurants and bars and stay out dancing till the wee hours with friends are some of my favorite things to do. Its so nice to be able to live and work in the neighborhood - and to not have to go to Manhattan 😉
JD and I also just bought a house in upstate New York, and are loving being able to escape the city and get some fresh country air! There are so many creative people moving up here so it’s really exciting to be a part of the Catskill’s new wave.
What inspired you & JD to open Concrete + Water?
I had been working in the fashion industry for a while as a stylist but was looking for a change and JD and I had always dreamed of opening a business together. We found our incredible space pretty quickly and that’s what really launched us into taking the leap to open the store. We saw the skylights and the huge backyard and couldn’t pass it up! We had always loved shopping together and wanted to create a beautiful space that was warm and inviting, and would be a great place for both women and men to shop. I believe shopping should be fun and should be a place where everyone feels welcome. When we started, we had a really strong vision for what Concrete + Water should look and feel like, and I think we executed that vision. I am very proud of what we have created at Concrete + Water and look forward to seeing where it takes us!
Tell us a good story about Henry (your angel pup)!
Ah, where do I start! Henry is my almost 14-year-old cocker spaniel and the love of my life (don’t worry JD’s ok with it!). I have had him since he was a puppy so we go way back. Henry loves that mom and dad own a store where he gets to hang all day with them. He also has neighborhood fans who come in to just see him! I’ll never forget laying eyes on him in a pet store window on 6th avenue and saying to my sister with tears in my eyes, “Can we keep him??” Fortunately, she said yes, and he’s been by my side ever since.
